The road south out of Vlorë runs along the coast to Orikum and then climbs into the Ceraunian Mountains through the Llogara National Park. At the top the pass opens onto one of the best-known views in Albania, with the Riviera laid out below, before descending in a long series of bends to Palasë and Dhërmi.
It is a genuinely scenic drive and a genuinely demanding one. The gradient, the bends and the weather at altitude all make it a road worth doing with someone who drives it regularly — and a road where a stop at the top is worth building into the journey.

It is a well-used main road, but it is mountainous, with tight bends and conditions that can differ sharply from the coast. We drive it regularly and plan the journey around the weather on the day.
