The bay and harbour at Himarë on the Albanian Riviera, with the castle hill above

Taxi in Himarë — transfers along the coast from Dhërmi and beyond

Himarë is the largest town on this stretch of the Riviera: a working harbour, a long seafront, the old town climbing to the castle, and a string of beaches to the north and south. It is the destination we are asked for most often from Dhërmi, and the natural base for journeys further down the coast.

Dhërmi to Himarë by taxi

The two villages sit on the same coastal road, separated by the headland at Vuno and the bay at Jal. It is a drive of bends and sea views rather than a motorway run, and it is the single most common transfer we make.

People take it in both directions and for different reasons: Dhërmi guests going to Himarë for the harbour, the restaurants or the Sunday market; Himarë guests coming to Dhërmi for the beaches and beach clubs; and travellers moving accommodation partway through a stay on the Riviera.

Because it is a short, frequently requested route, it is also one where booking ahead matters in high summer — the road is busy, and so are we.

What we drive in and around Himarë

  • Dhërmi ↔ Himarë transfers

Door-to-door in either direction, including luggage transfers when you are changing accommodation mid-stay.

  • Himarë hotel pickups

Collection from hotels and apartments along the seafront, in the old town and on the slopes above the bay.

  • Local beaches

Drop-offs and arranged returns for Livadhi, Potami, Spile and the smaller coves either side of the town.

  • Onward along the coast

Himarë to Qeparo, Borsh, Sarandë, Vlorë or Tirana airport, as a single booked journey.

Getting around Himarë itself

Himarë spreads out more than it first appears. The modern town and harbour sit at sea level around Spile, the old town (Himarë Kastro) is up on the hill behind, and the beaches run north towards Potami and Livadhi and south towards Jal and Qeparo. Walking between them in August heat, with a beach bag, is less appealing in practice than on a map.

The climb to the old town and the castle is the clearest case for a taxi: a steep, exposed road with little shade. Many visitors ride up and walk back down.

If you are staying in Himarë and want to see the villages along the coast, we can also arrange a vehicle and driver for a set period with stops where you want them, rather than booking each short journey separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take us from Dhërmi to Himarë and wait for the return?

Yes — a waiting transfer or a vehicle booked for a set period can both be arranged. Tell us roughly how long you want to stay and we will confirm what works and what it costs.

Do you drive up to Himarë old town and the castle?

Yes. The road up to Kastro is steep and we drive it regularly. It is a popular drop-off for visitors who want to walk back down to the town.

Can we take luggage when moving from Dhërmi to a hotel in Himarë?

Yes. Tell us how many suitcases you have when booking so we send a vehicle with enough space.

Is there a bus between Dhërmi and Himarë?

Coastal services do run along this road, but they are infrequent, timetables change with the season, and they stop on the main road rather than at your accommodation. A taxi is the predictable option, particularly with luggage.

Can you collect us from a beach near Himarë in the evening?

Usually, if it is arranged earlier in the day. Agree a pickup time and point with us in advance rather than calling at the end of the evening in peak season.
